Before the settlement of Lytle Creek was named Murfreesboro, before the town became Tennessee's state capital in 1818, and long before the Battle of Stones River began in 1863, a school was built.

In 1806 the Tennessee General Assembly provided for academies in every county of the new state and appointed trustees. In Rutherford County, the school was named Bradley Academy.

Today, Bradley Academy is a dignified and proud symbol of education for all people in Rutherford County.  Exhibits on the county's history, a heritage classroom, an auditorium, and other flexible spaces ensure this renovated 1917 National Register building will continue to play a part in the history of the community for the next 100 years.
